HURRICANE: MAVTech Technology at the Service of Disaster Management

On January 30th, the HURRICANE (Holistic UGV-based Resilient and Real-time Intelligence for Crisis And Natural Emergency) project has been officially kicked off!

By using advanced technologies, the project aims to revolutionize the management of emergencies caused by extreme weather events. According to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), their frequency has increased fivefold in the last fifty years, making it increasingly urgent to adopt innovative and effective solutions.

Funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe program and coordinated by a multidisciplinary consortium of 15 partners, the project aims to optimize the use of ground vehicles (UGVs) and drones (UAVs), integrating Artificial Intelligence solutions and advanced communication infrastructures (5G, RF, optical wireless).

MAVTech will provide RX3 and Q4X drones, equipped with thermal cameras and advanced video cameras, capable of detecting fires and locating missing persons using sophisticated artificial intelligence algorithms developed by BlueTensor, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and MidGard.

Our drones will operate in critical environments, from the mountainous areas of the Alps to the peri-urban zones of Corsica and will also be deployed for managing wildfires in Andalusia.

Objectives
By 2028, the project aims to improve the efficiency of rescue operations by 60% and reduce false positives by 95%. Over 100 rescue operators will be trained in 15 European countries, with the goal of reaching 10,000 professionals by 2035.

HURRICANE represents a crucial step towards the adoption of advanced technologies for the safety and protection of communities.
